There is a factional system in place, though it is largely for roleplay purposes only. There are major factions and minor factions, and there are some independent groups as well. The faction system is in place for roleplay purposes, but it is also for out of character organizational purposes.
The faction system is mostly a background mechanic that exists within the overall story of Stelvik Station. It is mostly there to provide added depth and flavor to the writing for the members of the simm.
It provides an organizational mechanic out of character while playing up some political drama and station life in character. There are four major factions, or corporations, in operation across the station. There are also many smaller, or minor businesses, that act as their own faction. The station government acts as a faction as well, though it has a different agenda from the corporations and small businesses.
In character power and influence is determined by the strength of a faction. Political capital is also determined, to some degree, by the strength of the faction. The station government controls most of the political capital. While a lot of power and influence is held by the station government and the four major corporations.
The smaller factions, businesses, and alliances hold smaller market shares and less power. There are no numbers, no tracking system, nothing. Everything that comes from a faction’s political capital, power, and influence is a background mechanic.
The major factions include:
- Ascension Global
- Vitalis Solutions
- Zeno Mining Corp.
- Eclipse Logistics
- Station Government
There are five political parties in operation across the entirety of the station. They are each considered a faction on their own, though they are only there to influence political power for the station government.
