Charles Washington was born in 2360. His father Ethan had high expectations for Charlie, and it was enough to drive Charlie into taking drastic action. When he turned eighteen, Charlie made the choice to go and enlist in Starfleet without telling his father, though this was a decision that Ethan Washington would accept later on.
Charles met his wife Annie during his time as a Crewman aboard the USS Tortuga. They married shortly after learning that Annie was carrying their child. Melanie Washington was born in 2380, two years after Charlie had joined Starfleet. This was around the time that his father Ethan had come around to the idea of Charlie being in Starfleet.
Annie returned to Earth with Melanie while Charlie remained aboard the USS Tortuga where she’d gotten a job working for a corporation known as Zeno Mining. By the time Charlie had turned twenty-eight he’d reached the rank of Chief Petty Officer and transferred to Stelvik Station when his wife Annie moved with the company she was working for.
