Ashley Ortega was born in 2376, twelve years after her older sister Alexandra. She was very young when her sister left for Starfleet Academy, and struggled early on with the absence of her big sister. Ashley was always very close to her big sister and so enjoyed the regular visits from Alexandra.
Barely after Ashley turned twelve her parents were aboard a shuttle heading for the space station where her father worked as a contractor when a malfunction caused the shuttle to explode midflight. Almost overnight Ashley became an orphan though she at least had her sister.
Following the funeral Ashley joined her big sister on board Stelvik Station where Alexandra had only recently been transferred to. Now her big sister was practically her parent, though Ashley was rather uncertain about how that was going to work out.
